Working at sea requires not only specific psychophysical predispositions but also high professional qualifications. The introduction of increasingly modern technologies means that knowledge acquired at universities and maritime schools quickly becomes outdated. Therefore, people seeking attractive workplaces must have not only adequate maritime practice but also constantly update and expand their professional knowledge. This issue is reflected in the provisions of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers of 1978, amended by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 1995 and known as the STCW 78/95 Convention.
