Training goal
Preparation for the Chief Engineer examination in the areas of:
- Marine engineering (reciprocating engines, power plants, materials science)
- Controlling the operation of the ship and care for persons on board (maritime law, environmental protection, safety management)
Requirements
Participation requires:
- A Second Engineer Officer certificate on ships of ≥3,000 kW + 12 months of service in that position (6 months may come from service on ships of 750–3,000 kW)
- Or: a Second Engineer Officer certificate on ships of ≥3,000 kW + a Chief Engineer certificate on ships of 750–3,000 kW + 6 months of service on ships of ≥3,000 kW
Certificate
Chief Engineer certificate issued by the Maritime Qualifications Examination Centre (CMKE), valid indefinitely.
