§ 49(1). To obtain the Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch certificate on ships with main propulsion power of 750 kW and above, the candidate must hold certificates of proficiency in personal survival techniques, basic fire fighting, elementary first aid, personal safety and social responsibility, advanced fire fighting, medical first aid, engine-room management, a rescue-boat operator certificate, and:
1) completion of studies at a type-A or type-B MET institution, or education at a type-C MET institution, providing training at least at operational level in the engine department, mechanical specialisation, as stated in the certificate of recognition; completion of supervised 12 months of combined workshop-skills training and sea service in the engine department, mechanical specialisation, confirmed in a training-record-book certificate issued by the MET institution, including at least 6 months of sea service on ships with main propulsion power of 750 kW and above, and passing the operational-level engine examination, mechanical specialisation, for international voyages; or
2) holding an Electro-Technical Officer certificate for ships of 750 kW and above and 24 months of additional sea service on ships of 750 kW and above in the engine department, mechanical specialisation, and completion of type-D MET training at operational level in the engine department, mechanical specialisation, consistent with the certificate of recognition, and passing the operational-level engine examination, mechanical specialisation, for international voyages; or
3) 36 months of combined workshop-skills training and sea service in the engine department, mechanical specialisation, of which not less than 30 months of sea service, including at least 12 months on ships of 750 kW and above and 12 months on ships of 400 kW and above, and completion of type-D MET training at operational level in the engine department, mechanical specialisation, consistent with the certificate of recognition, and passing the operational-level engine examination, mechanical specialisation, for international voyages.
NOTE! Documents must be submitted to the CMKE examination centre 21 days before the examination date.
