Course description

Training leading to the Electro-Technical Officer certificate on ships with main propulsion power of 750 kW and above.

793 h (approx. 23 weeks)

Requirements

Announcement of the Minister of Infrastructure of 24 May 2023 on the publication of the consolidated text of the Regulation on the training and qualifications of seafarers:

§ 54(1). To obtain the Electro-Technical Officer certificate on ships with main propulsion power of 750 kW and above, the candidate must hold certificates of proficiency in the operation and maintenance of power systems above 1 kV, advanced fire fighting, medical first aid, engine-room management, personal survival techniques, personal safety and social responsibility, elementary first aid and basic fire fighting, a rescue-boat operator certificate, and:

1) completion of studies at a type-A or type-B MET institution, or education at a type-C MET institution, providing training at operational level in the engine department, electrical specialisation, as stated in the certificate of recognition; completion of 12 months of combined workshop-skills training and sea service in the engine department, electrical specialisation, including at least 6 months of supervised sea service on ships with main propulsion power of 750 kW and above, confirmed in a training-record-book certificate issued by the MET institution, and passing the operational-level engine examination, electrical specialisation, for international voyages; or

2) holding an Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch certificate and 24 months of additional sea service on ships with main propulsion power of 750 kW and above in the engine department, electrical specialisation, and completion of type-D MET training at operational level in the engine department, electrical specialisation, consistent with the certificate of recognition, and passing the operational-level engine examination, electrical specialisation, for international voyages; or

3) 36 months of combined workshop-skills training and sea service in the engine department, electrical specialisation, of which at least 30 months of sea service on ships with main propulsion power of 400 kW and above, including at least 12 months on ships of 750 kW and above, and completion of type-D MET training at operational level in the engine department, electrical specialisation, consistent with the certificate of recognition, and passing the operational-level engine examination, electrical specialisation, for international voyages.

NOTE! Documents must be submitted to the CMKE examination centre 21 days before the examination date.

Marine Electro-Technical Officer diploma compliant with IMO regulations, valid for 5 years.
